# Features and recovery

> Manage optional modules, dependency order, preserved history, and recovery workflows.

Feature settings let administrators control optional product modules for an organization. Module boundaries preserve existing records while preventing new activity that depends on a feature being off.

## Always-on and optional modules

Core modules such as Work Orders, Requests, Assets, Locations, Reports, Schedule, Inbox, Teams, and Users stay on.

Organization-controlled modules include Ask Canary, Automations, Agents where platform access is available, Work Order Templates, Maintenance Plans, Procedures, Meters, and Parts Inventory. Request Portals has its own management surface.

## Dependencies

Canary enforces dependency order:

* **Automations** requires **Meters**.
* **Maintenance Plans** requires **Work Orders**, **Assets**, and **Work Order Templates**.

Enable prerequisites first. Disable dependent modules first.

## Turn a feature on or off

1. Open **Settings > Features**.
2. Find the module.
3. Review required or dependent modules.
4. Change **Feature Module** to **On** or **Off**.
5. Confirm the new state before continuing.

Turning a module off blocks new live use. Authenticated cleanup, admitted work, and recovery operations remain available where defined. Re-enabling begins with new activity from that point; past triggers stay in history.

## Parts Inventory recovery

Select **Open recovery** on Parts Inventory to:

* Restore one or many archived parts
* Restore archived vendors and their preserved relationships
* Review purchase-order, receipt, correction, and lifecycle history
* Cancel, archive, or restore eligible purchase orders
* Reconcile deferred inventory on completed work orders
* Release committed work-order parts
* Remove eligible planned work-order parts

This surface remains available to administrators while Parts Inventory is off.

## Maintenance Plan recovery

Select **Open plan recovery** to inspect preserved plan definitions, versions, occurrences, and generated-work provenance. The recovery catalog remains read-only while the module is off. Turning Maintenance Plans or Procedures off establishes a lifecycle boundary for future occurrences while preserving generated work and plan history.

## Safe module changes

1. Review active automations, plans, templates, and in-progress work.
2. Resolve dependent modules and live references.
3. Turn the module off.
4. Use recovery surfaces to clean up or inspect preserved records.
5. Turn prerequisites on before re-enabling dependent modules.
