# Canary mobile app

> Use Canary on iOS and Android for connected field maintenance.

The Canary mobile app gives field teams a focused way to receive work, record job details, scan equipment, manage common inventory tasks, submit requests, and use Ask Canary. The same app capabilities are supported on iOS and Android.

## Before you begin

* Join the organization with an account that can access the required records.
* Use an active internet connection; mobile actions read and write through Canary's APIs.
* Allow camera access when you want to scan identifiers or add photos.

## Main areas

| Area | Current use |
| --------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Overview | Review maintenance summaries, open work, and pending requests |
| Work Orders | Find, create, update, execute, time, comment on, and complete work; attach files and export PDFs |
| Assets | Search equipment and locations, review details, update asset status, and attach identifiers |
| More > Requests | Create and review maintenance requests |
| More > Parts | Find parts and record common stock actions |
| More > Inbox | Review maintenance notifications |
| Ask Canary | Search operational records and prepare approved changes |

Requesters receive a focused request experience based on their account role.

## Scan an identifier

1. Open the scanner from the mobile app.
2. Point the camera at a Canary label or an identifier already assigned to a record.
3. Review the matched asset, location, or part.
4. Continue into details, history, work, or the available field action.

An identifier must match the stored value exactly. See [QR codes and barcodes](/help/assets/qr-codes) for setup and retirement.

## Complete field work

1. Open an assigned work order.
2. Start or update its status.
3. Select **Start Timer** to record your work. Pause, resume, or stop the timer from the pinned controls.
4. Review the asset, instructions, attached procedure, planned parts, and documents.
5. Record procedure responses, parts used, comments, and completion evidence as required.
6. Complete the work order and confirm the final values.

The **Time** row shows accumulated timer entries for the work order. Administrators can also see its calculated labor cost. **Other Costs** remains visibly unavailable, and manual time or expense entry remains outside the current interface.

## Web-only areas today

Use the web app to manage asset documents, the standalone procedure library, meters, vendors, purchase orders, member invitations, and organization settings. Mobile placeholders for Messages and some **More** destinations identify these boundaries in the app.

## Safety and history

Review the target record before saving a scan-based or AI-prepared change. Follow approved site procedures for safety-critical work. Mobile updates become part of the same organization history as web updates.
