# Create and manage parts

> Build the part catalog, set stock targets, link equipment, and restore archived parts.

Use a single part record for the same maintained item across locations. Location rows carry the quantities and stocking targets for each storeroom, truck, or site.

## Create a part

1. Open **Parts** and select **New Part**.
2. Enter the name and identifying details.
3. Choose one or more part types.
4. Add the manufacturer, part number, unit cost, image, attachments, and custom fields you use.
5. Add inventory locations with area, on-hand quantity, minimum, and maximum values.
6. Link the assets this part fits.
7. Add scannable identifiers when technicians will look it up from a label.
8. Save the part.

## Set useful stock targets

For each location:

1. Count the physical stock.
2. Set the current on-hand quantity.
3. Set a minimum that signals replenishment.
4. Set a maximum that represents the normal replenishment target.
5. Add an area description such as a bin, shelf, cage, or vehicle position.

The maximum must be at least the minimum. Canary uses these values with the organization's reorder basis and outstanding purchase orders to calculate replenishment guidance.

## Link assets and vendors

Link a part to each compatible asset so planners and technicians can find it from equipment context. Add vendors separately to record supplier-specific numbers, costs, and a preferred supplier.

## Archive a part

1. Open the part.
2. Review active automation dependencies and remove them.
3. Select **Delete** and confirm.

The part leaves active selectors while its historical movements and work-order facts remain.

## Restore a part

1. Open **Settings > Features > Parts Inventory**.
2. Select **Open recovery**.
3. Find the archived part.
4. Select **Restore**, or choose multiple parts for batch restore.
