# Stock movements

> Restock, transfer, consume, adjust, and audit part inventory.

A stock movement is an immutable inventory event. Canary stores the quantity change, location context, actor, time, notes, and relevant snapshots so teams can explain how a balance changed.

## Movement types

* **Restock** adds quantity at a location.
* **Transfer** subtracts from one location and adds to another.
* **Used / consumed** subtracts quantity outside the work-order issue flow.
* **Adjustment** sets or corrects a counted balance.
* **Work-order issue** subtracts the quantity used on completed work.
* **Purchase-order receipt** adds received inventory.
* **Correction** reverses an eligible receipt quantity while retaining both entries.

## Restock a part

1. Open the part and select **Restock**.
2. Choose the receiving location.
3. Enter a positive whole-unit quantity.
4. Add delivery or count notes.
5. Review the before-and-after balance and confirm.

## Transfer stock

1. Open the part and select **Transfer**.
2. Choose the source location and quantity.
3. Choose another location as the destination.
4. Add notes and confirm the preview.

Canary limits a standard transfer to the available quantity at the source.

## Record parts used outside a work order

1. Start **Transfer** from the part.
2. Choose **Used / consumed** as the destination action.
3. Enter the quantity and a note explaining the use.
4. Confirm the movement.

Use the work-order part workflow when consumption belongs to a job; it preserves demand, issue stage, assignee, and job cost context.

## Reconcile a physical count

Use an adjustment when a verified count differs from Canary. Document the reason. Preserve prior ledger events and use the new adjustment as the accountable correction.
