# Complete a Procedure

> Record structured responses on a work order and preserve the finished Procedure as read-only history.

An attached Procedure belongs to its work order. Responses save against the attached snapshot, so the job stays tied to the exact fields and options the technician received.

## Complete fields on the web

1. Open the work order.
2. Open **Procedure**, then select **Open procedure workspace** when you want the full-page runner.
3. Work through the fields in order.
4. Watch for **Saved** after each response. Text and number input saves after a short pause; discrete choices save immediately.
5. Review **Progress** and the count of required fields remaining.
6. Answer every non-heading field to finish the Procedure.

Canary moves the Procedure through Not Started, In Progress, and Completed as responses are saved. When every countable field has an answer, the Procedure becomes **Completed** and read-only. Review the final field before saving it because completed responses are immutable maintenance history.

Procedure completion records structured job evidence. Set the work order to **Done** separately when the overall maintenance task is complete.

## Complete supported fields on mobile

1. Open the work order.
2. Select **View Procedure**.
3. Use the section runner and **Next step** to move through the Procedure.
4. Complete Checkbox, Text Field, Number Field, Amount, Multiple Choice, Checklist, Inspection Check, and Yes, No, N/A fields.
5. Wait for the saved indicator before leaving a field with an in-progress update.

Timer controls remain available in the pinned Procedure runner. Start, pause, resume, or stop the timer separately from procedure progress to record labor time for the work order.

Mobile shows **Not yet available** for new Picture/File, Signature, Date, and Meter Reading input. Open the work order on the web to complete those fields. Existing saved values remain visible in read-only history.

## Understand progress

Progress counts every field except Heading:

* **Completed** is the number of fields with a stored answer.
* **Total** is every countable field in the snapshot.
* **Required remaining** highlights required fields that still need answers.

Every countable field contributes to final completion, including optional fields. Clear an answer while the Procedure is still editable when that field should return to incomplete.

## Review completed history

A completed Procedure shows its saved response values and any recorded response author and time. Its template snapshot stays stable after Procedure Library edits or deletion.

Use [Export PDF](/help/work-orders/comments-activity-and-pdf#export-a-work-order-pdf) to include the Procedure structure, responses, supported pictures, and completion context in a portable work-order record.
