People with standard maintenance access can create and update assets. Administrators also manage asset types, hierarchy depth, status reasons, and propagation behavior in Settings > Features > Assets.

Create an asset

  1. Open Assets.
  2. Select New Asset.
  3. Enter a unique, recognizable name.
  4. Choose at least one asset type.
  5. Set status and criticality.
  6. Add the operating location and equipment details.
  7. Choose a parent asset when this record is a maintained component.
  8. Add custom fields, identifiers, linked parts, linked meters, or documents as needed.
  9. Select Create Asset.

Build or change a hierarchy

  1. Open the asset that should become a sub-asset.
  2. Select Edit Asset.
  3. Choose its Parent Asset.
  4. Save the asset.
Canary checks the full subtree for cycles and the configured maximum depth. Removing the parent promotes the asset and its descendants to a top-level subtree.

Update asset status

  1. Open the asset.
  2. Choose the new status.
  3. Select the downtime type or configured reason when requested.
  4. Add a note that explains the operational change.
  5. Review any hierarchy propagation prompt, then confirm.
Consistent reasons and notes make downtime history easier to interpret.

Delete an asset subtree

  1. Open the highest asset you intend to archive.
  2. Review the impact summary, including the number of descendants and linked records.
  3. Move any sub-assets you want to keep active out of the subtree.
  4. Resolve active meter and automation dependencies.
  5. Select Delete and confirm.
Canary archives the selected asset and all descendants together while preserving linked history.

Restore deleted assets

  1. Open Assets and enable Show deleted.
  2. Open an archived asset.
  3. Select Restore.
The restore operation recovers records archived in the same deletion batch. Safe parent links return with them; links to unavailable parents are omitted.
