A work-order part connects planned demand to the physical stock used on a job. Its stage tells planners how ready the material is and when it affects availability or on-hand inventory.

Part stages

Add a planned part

  1. Open the work order and go to Parts.
  2. Select the part and inventory location.
  3. Enter the planned quantity.
  4. Save it in the Assigned stage.

Commit and prepare stock

  1. Review current available quantity.
  2. Move the part to Reserved when inventory should be committed.
  3. Move it to Kitted after gathering the material.
  4. Move it to Staged when it is ready at the job.
Reservations above available stock require an administrator’s explicit overcommit confirmation after reviewing the competing demand.

Issue parts on completion

  1. Enter the actual quantity used for each part.
  2. Review the source location and discrepancies.
  3. Complete the work order.
Canary posts the inventory movement and marks the work-order part Issued atomically. The issued record preserves part name, location, quantity, and cost snapshots for history.

When Parts Inventory is off

Existing work and historical facts remain visible. Completion can flag planned parts for reconciliation because live inventory use is unavailable. Administrators can use Parts Inventory recovery to release commitments, remove planned rows, or reconcile eligible work after reviewing the retained record.
